Water softener & filtration installation in Vancouver, WA.
Vancouver is home base. Most of the city is on City of Vancouver water from local wells; neighborhoods outside the city limits are on Clark Public Utilities. Both are safe. Both are hard enough to scale up a water heater.
Water in Vancouver
Every drop of Vancouver city water comes from wells tapping three local aquifers: the Orchards, Troutdale and Sand-and-Gravel systems, pumped from nine water stations around the city. The utility adds a trace of chlorine for disinfection and fluoride for teeth, and it publishes its test results every year.
Hardness is the everyday issue. The 2025 report lists 55 to 130 ppm, roughly 3 to 8 grains per gallon, and which end of that range you're on depends on which water station feeds your street. Cascade Park, Fisher's Landing, Orchards, Hazel Dell, Felida, Minnehaha and the rest of the city each sit on their own mix of wells. That's why we test at your tap instead of quoting from a map.
PFAS is the newer issue. Three of the city's water stations have tested at or above state and federal limits, and the city is building carbon treatment starting in 2026. Until that's done, a reverse osmosis tap is what a Vancouver household can do at home.
